Our Welcome reception on Sunday, August 01, 18:00 at the conference location will provide an opportunity for first leisurely contact and for registration. Nonalcoholic beverages and a small snack are provided free of charge.
Participants who have registered for the boat trip on Wednesday,
August 4, will find their tickets in the conference bag they have
received at the registration desk.
The boat leaves at 3:00 PM near S-Bahn ``Friedrichstraße''
(S1, S2, S25, S3, S5, S7, S75, S9).
Leave the station and follow Friedrichstraße north until you arrive
at a bridge over the Spree river. The quay where the boat leaves is to
the right, before crossing the bridge.
Scheduled return time to the dome is 6:00 PM.
The Conference Dinner is on Thursday, August 5, 8:30 PM, at the restaurant ``Leopold's'', Alt-Moabit 98. The nearest U-Bahn station is ``Turmstra{\ss}e (U9)''. From the Free University take the U1 (direction ``Warschauer Straße'') to ``Spichernstraße''. There, take the U9, direction ``Osloer Straße''. Or, take the bus 183 to Rathaus Steglitz and change there to the U-Bahn (U9). It is most convenient to leave ``Turmstraße'' in the direction opposite to arrival. Then follow the street ``Alt-Moabit'' in eastern direction for approximately 100m. You will find the Leopold's in the same building as the ``Sorat Hotel'' on the right side.
All excursions are free of charge for registered accompanying persons.
Advance registration is required by Monday, August 02, 02:00 PM.
Numbers of participants are limited and reservation tickets will be
issued.
Departure for all tours is from the entrance hall of the hotel
``Steglitz International'', Albrechtstr. 2, at U/S-Bahn ``Rathaus Steglitz''.
On Thursday, August 5, a guided tour to the former
concentration camp in Sachsenhausen is offered. The number of
participants is limited to 50.
The concentration camp Oranienburg was the first of its kind in Germany.
It existed until 1934. Two years later, a new concentration camp was
built in the neighboring village of Sachsenhausen. In the first period
the prisoners were mostly members of the social-democratic and
communist party. In 1939 many Polish citizens were deported to
Sachsenhausen, including a group of professors of the University of
Cracow, among them Tadeusz Wazewski.
Departure is at 1:30 PM at the main entrance of the Informatik building,
Takustr. 9. Expected return time is around 7:00 PM at the S/U-Bahn ``Rathaus
Steglitz''. Since the number of participants is limited to max. 50, please
contact the conference office for further information.
As a special event, following EQUADIFF 99, we have organized a total solar eclipse for Wednesday, Aug 11, 1999. The narrow path of totality crosses South Germany from 10:32 to 10:45.
